Service Learning and CAS
Service Learning:
All high school students in the state of Maryland must complete and submit at least 75 hours of service learning. Submit completed documents (pre-approval form, typed preparation form, typed reflection form, student service hours record card, and student evaluation form) to Ms. Marcano, Service Learning Coordinator, in the Main Office.

Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS):
Welcome to Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS), one of the three core components of and a requirement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program which looks for students to be well-rounded by participating in extracurricular experiences in addition to the academic work of the IB Full Diploma Program.

What is CAS?
It is Individual and group experiences that provide students with opportunities to explore interests and express personality and perspective.
What does CAS stand for?
CREATIVITY: Exploring or extending ideas leading to an original product or performance.
ACTIVITY: Physical exertion leading to a healthy lifestyle.
SERVICE: Collaborative and reciprocal engagement in the community in response to an authentic need.
Some Aims of CAS:

purposefully reflect upon experiences

identify goals, develop strategies and determine further actions for personal growth

actively participate in planned, sustained, and collaborative CAS projects

understand role as a member of local and global communities with responsibilities towards each other and the environment.

Process: Experiences begin summer before junior year through spring of senior year

Examples: Sports, Choir, Clubs, Community and Extracurricular Activities
Reflections completed about each CAS experience
Required meetings with CAS Coordinator and Advisors to discuss CAS Project and Activities
What is the CAS Project?
You must be involved in at least one CAS Project during your CAS Programme.

Have a duration of at least one month

Can address any single strand of CAS

Include collaboration and teamwork (inside or outside of City College)

Must benefit others, and have global significance

Use CAS stages as a framework for implementation

Reflect on CAS Project experience
